About Us
Gerald R. Smith has been a fixture in local history for four decades. Smith was Broome County Historian and City Historian for over 30 years. He was a founder and past president of the Association of Public Historians of New York State. He has received the Herbert H. Lehmann Prize for Distinguished Service in New York History by the New York Academy of History, the Edmund Winslow Award for Excellence from the New York State Museum, and the Sigma Award for Distinguished Public Service from Binghamton University's School of Public Administration.
Smith has given more than 600 presentations across the state. He teaches Local History at SUNY Broome, writes the Spanning Time and Southern Tier Throwback columns for the Press & Sun-Bulletin, authored six books, and is available for presentations and tours. He began HistorySmiths in 2010.
